This cultural tragedy was compounded by two subsequent decades of economic hardship and political instability. Founded by Arn Chorn-Pond, Cambodian Living Arts (CLA) works to help Cambodians renew their lives and communities through the arts. Pairing master teachers with young artists, CLA not only helps preserve the rich cultural heritage of Cambodia, but also provides educational and economic opportunities for hundreds of people throughout the country. Please join us for a reception and concert to support CLA's mission to renew traditional Cambodian performing arts and to inspire contemporary artistic expression in Cambodia. The practice of improvising is integrated by discussion, research and critical analysis, all of which contribute to the elaboration of structures, information and organizational modes. Their music is marked by a sequence of sound blocks and diversified interlocking timbres and shapes, where detailed textural work alternates with rhythmic accelerations and highly dense sound events. Standard instrumental techniques are explored, together with heterodox practices such as manipulation, treatment, electrification and amplification of various objects, assuming noise as a structural element. Their improvisational work develops through electro acoustical elaboration in real time and the use of tapes, which both expand and define the space where sound is manipulated. Ossatura tends towards a combination of non-musical languages through a creative process where music is but one of the components in a complex and extended project. kuronekomusic.com/ossatura Tuesday 5/12/09 9:00PM The Engines Dave Rempis - saxophones, Jeb Bishop - trombone, Nate McBride - bass, Tim Daisy - drums Wednesday 5/13/09 9:00PM DBH (Bloomington, IN) www.myspace.com/dbhtheband KEJI AL FEJU TINY MUSIC www.myspace.com/tinymusicband Thursday 5/14/09 - 10:00PM Improvised Music Series Wosko/Thatcher/Daisy Lilianna Wosko – cello, Dan Thatcher – bass, Tim Daisy - drums Riordan/Thatcher/Daisy Marc Riordan – piano, Dan Thatcher – bass, Tim Daisy - drums Friday 5/15/09 9:00PM LOGAN SQUARE CHAMBER OF ARTS presents elastic electro/acoustic series Jim Baker/Brian Sandstrom Jim Baker - ARP synthesizer; Brian Sandstrom - bass, e. guitar Kimmel/Labycz/Wiss Isa Wiss - voice; Jeff Kimmel - bass clarinet; Brian Labycz - electronics Boye/Montgomery/Wanek Ben Boye - harmonium, electronics; Jayve Montgomery - saxophones, electronics; Joel Wanek - bass Saturday 5/16/09 9:00PM LOGAN SQUARE CHAMBER OF ARTS presents elastic hip-hop series White Jesus myspace.com/6ringswhitejesus Number 2 myspace.com/claudellhayes Philip Morris myspace.com/phillipmorris Serengeti myspace.com/goldenfloyd Gilead 7 Skech 185 Thursday 5/21/09 - 10:00PM Improvised Music Series set one Streifenjunko Norway myspace.com/streifenjunko Eivind Nordset Lønning - trumpet; Espen Reinertsen - tenor saxophone + flute set two Gino Robair/Jaimie Branch Gino Robair - drums, Jaimie Branch - trumpet Friday 5/22/09 - 9:00PM Wiss/Gregorio/Giallorenzo/Roebke Isa Wiss - voice; Guillermo Gregorio - reeds; Paul Giallorenzo - piano; Jason Roebke - bass Wiss/Falzone/Stein/Adasiewicz Isa Wiss - voice; James Falzone - clarinet; Jason Stein - bass clarinet; Jason Adasiewicz - vibes Saturday 5/23/09 - 9:00PM The Vizitors Kenneth Green - keyboards, Skeeter Shelton - reeds, Dushun Mosley - drums playing their own creative music ranging from jazz to funk to fushion, with the blues somewhere in between Thursday 5/28/09 - 10:00PM Improvised Music Series set one Leimgruber/Hunt Urs Leimgruber – saxophones, Steve Hunt - drums set two Leimgruber/Mallozzi/Giallorenzo/Hunt Urs Leimgruber – saxophones; Lou Mallozzi - turntables, electronics; Paul Giallorenzo - piano, synthesizer; Steve Hunt - drums |
