The Dead Superheroes Orchestra
Mark Winston, Stephanie Smith, Jack Tamburri, Ayse Kocakulah, and Bobby Chan

The Cynics are an extremely diverse group of musicians that explore different styles of songwriting with non-traditional instrumentation. Bass clarinet, string trio, and vibraphone fly over a traditional rock rhythm section. With songwriting that takes cues from everything from opera to jazz and performers who are regulars in the Chicago music scene, The Cynics approach pop music in a very atypical fashion. Elliott Smith meets Frank Zappa with Steely Dan writing the chord changes. But with a midwestern feel. Dig it.

The Dead Superheroes Orchestra-Mark Winston, Stephanie Smith, Jack Tamburri, Ayse Kocakulah, and Bobby Chan--must be heard to be believed. A rock ensemble with a dazzling sound, tasteful string arrangements, and a pitch-black wit, the DSO will take you on a journey from your hometown cemetary down to the depths of the Underworld, up to the cool bare face of the moon, and back again. The Orchestra and the story they tell were dreamed up by brains steeped in Batman, Mozart, Dostoevsky and Dante. It is the story of an angel and a boy who comes back from the dead. We hope you enjoy it.

In the Name of "Choice" - a benefit

featuring performances by :
Bloody Belle (burlesque): www.bloodybelle.com

Steph Bowlin (musician): www.myspace.com/stephbowlin
Idris Goodwin (hip hop): www.idrisgoodwin.com
Erica & Matiss (performers): www.myspace.com/lornalux
DJ Grimmace (DJ): www.myspace.com/djgrimmace
Tom Herman (performer/writer): www.multitastic.com, or emailth@multitastic.com

This benefit will raise money towards production costs for the play "Choice", which will begin a full run in January of 2007 at the Prop Theater in Chicago.

“Choice” is a one-woman show in one act, running just over an hour in length. It is the weaving together of ten different “characters” or patients taken before their abortions, in between video footage of interviews with abortion providers, as well as personal accounts from the narrator regarding observations while working for reproductive justice. The purpose of this production is to expose the public to the personal and individual stories behind a women’s right to choose, in the hopes of lifting the cultural stigma, which distorts the issue of abortion, specifically in America.

There will also be a fabulous raffle. The order of the evening will probably run with the acts going first, then the raffle, and finish with music by the DJ with dancing. Food and beverages will be provided (yet guests are encourage to also bring their own).

Hosted by the Author/Performer of “Choice”: Courtney Berne (cberne@gmail.com)
